Hurricanes Grab 3rd Place ... It's Playoff Time !

The BMO Western Hurricanes entered the Pictou County Memorial Tournament for Nova Scotia Major Bantam clubs with a chance to win their third straight NSMBHL regular season league championship.

On Friday, the Hurricanes opened up with an 11 - 1 win over the Cole Harbour - Eastern Shore Storm and on Saturday had a 4 - 4 tie against the Valley Wildcats and a 4 - 4 tie against the Bedford Barons.  When the dust settled with all 12 NSMBHL teams completing their regular season play, the Halifax Hawks earned the league banner as regular season champs with 47 points and have the first place seed entering play-offs.  The Hurricanes were only one point behind with 46 points tied with Cape Breton who also had 46 points.  Cape Breton gets the second place seed based on getting more total wins to achieve their 46 points.  Hurricanes grab the third seed entering the play-offs next weekend.  Check out the regular season standings on the league website for a clear picture of it all.  Another great regular season for the Hurricanes Hockey Program.

The Hurricanes organization would like to recognize a big achievement for our team captain, Keith Getson.  Keith captured the league scoring title with 81 points in only 29 regular season games, combining for 50 goals and 31 assists.  His 50 goals is a Nova Scotia Major Bantam Hockey League record surpassing 49 goals by Nic Blanchard of the Valley Wildcats in the 2010 - 2011 season and his 81 points is also a league record surpassing the 75 points by Layton Parsons of Cole Harbour in the 2011 - 2012 seaon.  Also congrats to goaltenders Luke Emin and Colby Muise who finished 2nd and 3rd respectively in goals against average among the 24 league goaltenders.  Luke also led the league with 6 shut outs.
