Novas Continue To Roll
The Nova Major Bantams were back in action this past weekend after winning the ESSO Atlantic Major Bantam Hockey Tournament in Halifax the previous weekend. “We have been playing so much better of late, and the boys were obviously up for the challenge of facing the top teams in the Atlantic Region”, said head coach Kyle MacDonald. “We gave the boys the day off on Tuesday to let them rest up a bit, but we warned them that it’s back to business. We have to make sure we continue to build and improve as a team, as there isn’t a single easy game in this league!” The Nova Bantams seemed reenergized and razor sharp on Saturday evening as they thumped the Western Hurricanes 7-3 at the Antigonish Arena. Logan Timmons fired a hat trick to lead the way for the Novas, with Fearghus MacDonald, Logan Chisholm, Jacob Hudson, and Malcolm McEachern adding singles. MacDonald, Chisholm, and Hudson also chipped in with an assist each, while Darren Waterman, Lucas Fabijancic, Ryan MacLellan and Jack Morris provided single helpers. Colby Baker posted the win in nets on Saturday. In Sunday’s game, the Novas scratched out a tough 3-2 shootout victory against the pesky ACCEL Halifax Hawks. Leading the charge for the Novas were Stephen Fox with a couple of assists; Logan Timmons and Malcolm MacEachern each had a goal and an assist, and Logan Chisholm rounded out the scoring with an assist. Timmons also notched the shootout winner. Colton Ellis picked up the win in the pipes on Sunday. “I was pleased with the way we played on Saturday,” said Coach MacDonald. “On Sunday, the Hawks battled us hard, and we didn’t respond the way I would have liked! Some things we still have to improve upon, and we are getting there” The Novas go back on the road this weekend with a pair of away games against the Western Hurricanes; they return to their home rinks the following weekend with games against the Bedford Barons on Saturday, December 13 at the Antigonish Arena, and the Newbridge Senators on Sunday, December 14 at the Port Hawkesbury Civic Centre.
