The Nova Major Bantams were back in action this weekend with a home game against the Landworks Gulls at the Antigonish Arena and a road game against the Pictou County Crushers.  “Overall, we have been playing well as a team the past few weekends,” said head coach Kyle MacDonald.  “Over the past month, we learned that as a team we have to stay disciplined in order to be successful.  This weekend will be a good test to see how far we have progressed, as we have to do our best against two very scrappy teams if we want to maintain our position in the standings.”  

On Saturday, the Novas and Gulls traded chances through much of the first period until Logan Chisholm broke the game open with an unassisted shorthanded tally with 40 seconds to go in the first period.  The Novas built on that in the second with goals by Calum MacPherson and Jacob Hudson.  Stephen Fox scored early in the third to build a 4-0 lead for the Novas before the Gulls potted their first.  From there it was basically all Novas as both Logan Chisholm and Jacob Hudson each netted their second of the game, with Logan Timmons adding a pair of markers as well.  Hudson and MacPherson chipped in with an assist each; Ryan MacLellan and Fearghus MacDonald added a pair of helpers, and Lucas Fabijancic rounded out the scoring with an assist.  Colton Ellis was strong in nets for the victory.

On Sunday, the Nova Bantams faced the Crushers at the Pictou County Wellness Centre and came away with a 4-3 victory.  Logan Timmons and Jacob Stewart lead the way with multi-point games for the Novas with Timmons contributing two goals and an assist and Stewart a goal and an assist. Calum MacPherson scored the final Nova’s goal and Stephen Fox, Jacob Hudson, Malcolm MacEachern, and Sean Stewart added single helpers.  Kolby Baker picked up the win in Sunday’s game.  “On Sunday, we seemed to be a bit snakebitten,” said coach MacDonald.   “We had a lot of chances early, and they didn’t go in, but we were able to dig down and get the W!  On Saturday, everything seemed to be clicking!  What Sunday showed the coaching staff is that we are learning how to play through the tough spots where the pucks aren’t bouncing your way!”  The Nova Bantams are in their home rinks for a pair of games this weekend - on Saturday evening at 5 PM, they face off against the Bedford Barons at the Antigonish Arena, and on Sunday afternoon they entertain the Newbridge Senators at the Port Hawkesbury Civic Centre at 1 PM.
